Terms of Use
1. Acceptance
These Terms govern your use of the Write Chinese application ("the App") provided by Shanghai Dazhuo Information Technology Co., Ltd. ("we"). By downloading or using the App you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
2. What the App does
The App is a learning tool for writing Chinese characters. It shows stroke-order animations, allows practice and pronunciation playback, recognises Chinese text from images using on-device recognition, offers handwriting search, word-list quizzes and an optional AI explanation of individual characters.
3. Licence
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the App on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store rules. You may not copy, resell, rent, sublicense, reverse-engineer or attempt to extract the source code of the App, except where such restriction is prohibited by law.
4. Free features and paid features
The App can be used free of charge with a set of built-in word lists and features. Some content and convenience features require a subscription ("VIP"), for example:
- Looking up characters outside the built-in free word lists.
- Additional study word lists beyond the free one.
- Saving more than the free number of favourites in your word book.
- Unlimited daily handwriting look-ups (a small free daily allowance is included).
Free allowances may be adjusted in future versions; the current allowances are shown inside the App.
5. Subscriptions and billing
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple Account settings after purchase.
- Refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with the App Store policy.
We never receive your payment details; purchases are processed by Apple.
6. Your content stays yours
Everything you save in the App (favourites, practice history, settings) is stored on your own device. We do not access it, and we do not collect any personal information — see the Privacy Policy for details.
7. Accuracy of learning content
Stroke data, definitions, pinyin and AI-generated explanations are provided for learning purposes. AI explanations are generated automatically and may contain inaccuracies; please treat them as a study aid rather than an authoritative reference. For official standards, refer to your textbook or the relevant language authority.
8. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the App in any way that is unlawful, that infringes the rights of others, or that attempts to interfere with, overload, or gain unauthorised access to the App or its services.
9. Intellectual property
The App, its design, artwork, audio, and bundled data are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. These Terms do not transfer any ownership to you.
10. Disclaimer and limitation of liability
The App is provided "as is". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, and we are not liable for any indirect or incidental damages arising from your use of the App. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you may have under mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.
11. Changes and termination
We may update the App and these Terms from time to time; material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "last updated" date. You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or discontinue the App or any feature where required.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence remain unaffected.
